DVDs: Their Role In a Happy Marriage My fabulous wife and I are both hardcore DVD addicts. We have a large number of DVDs. What to watch?
Together we have devised a sublimely clever system for deciding which movie to watch. I heartily recommend it to all other married or otherwise coupled appreciators of the hypnotic silvered disc.
We take turns as puller and picker. The puller goes through the shelves, selecting the titles he or she might be in the mood for that night. After the puller has narrowed down the field, the picker makes the final selection.
Compromise without negotiation. What could be better?

Oddly, I've used exactly that system before in the past.
Our current methodology works like this:
"I want to watch a movie." "What kind of genre?" "I dunno. Something light."
We both peer at the gazillions of DVDs for a while.
"I can't find anything I want to watch." "Let's watch Pirates of the Caribbean." "Okay!"
We've watched Pirates an awful lot. :)
Is there minimum or maximum number of titles the puller is required to provide? You know, by law?
Dunno about law, but three seems to be a near-ideal number when my wife and I use the system (and it's pretty much the only way we're ever able to pick something). We use the same system in determining where to go out for dinner. :P

Again your lust for codification rears its doughty head.
While there are no formal regulations, social convention generally dictates a number between 12 and 20.

Wait a minute... is that an Iron & Silk insult?
No, I am an unabashed admirer of any book on which I collect royalties. I refer you instead to the following exchange.
You, sir, are a smart man. Great idea.

This sounds an awful lot like the method for giving two siblings cake. One cuts the pieces, the other choses who gets what. I hadn't thought to applying it to movies though. Great idea!
